Men Are Last Minute Lovers

Press release   •   Feb 13, 2015 08:20 GMT

With just one day to go before Valentine’s Day, research from Nectar, based on Sainsbury’s shopper habits, shows that 45% of men typically haven’t bought their loved ones a special card or gift*. In contrast, the research indicated that women are much more prepared when it comes to showing their love, with three in four women (73%) likely to have already picked up their presents and cards.

If shoppers using their Nectar card in Sainsbury’s follow the same patterns as last year, this could mean that there are over 2.1 million Valentine’s cards and presents being sold in the next two days**.

Shoppers wanting their Valentine’s gifts and plans to be even more rewarding should visit for ideas on how to collect and spend their Nectar points.

Nectar, the United Kingdom’s leading coalition loyalty programme, is owned by Aimia, a global leader in loyalty management.

In 2012, Nectar celebrated 10 years of rewarding British shoppers and has given back £2billion of rewards to collectors, including money off shopping, travel, days out and cinema tickets.

19 million collectors earn Nectar points when shopping for groceries, doing DIY, booking a holiday, paying household bills, buying petrol and even getting their car serviced. Collectors also earn Nectar points every time they shop online via at over 500 leading online retailers.

Nectar was awarded the “Best card-based loyalty programme” at the 2012 and 2013 Loyalty Awards for Europe and the Middle East.
